The big lake on the boarder from Peru to Bolivia in the highlands is fascinating, clear and icy cold. We were the only ones who swam in the sea, and that shortly!!The natives warned us, nobody will survive who enters the lake, because sirenes and giants will kill everybody. Nevertheless, we overlived :)The population increased in the last few years from 3 families to 30, thanks tourists. On the small islands there are information about their life, souvenir shops, even a possibility to stay overnight. Very business- minded, those natives!
Most popular of the titicaca lake are the "floating islands". You can reach them by boat from Puno - at tourist prices.
